Youth & Family Faith
At SS. Peter & Paul we recognize the calling of parents as primary educators and role models to their children. We partner with and support parents to help them engage their families in lifelong faith formation. Please see below for details about our Youth & Family Faith program including Sacrament Preparation for First Communion and Confirmation and Youth Ministry offerings. -
What does youth & family faith include?
Weekly Youth Faith Formation Classes:
Classes are offered:
K - 6th grade
Sunday 3:30 PM – 4:45 PM
1st – 6th grade
Monday 3:30 PM – 4:45 PM
7th - 8th grade/Confirmation Preparation
Sunday 6:15 PM – 7:45 PM
Note: Class days/times are subject to change based on enrollment and
available volunteers.
Family Faith Formation Sessions: Over the course of the year, there will be three family-centered faith formation sessions when parents and children attend together.
Sacrament Preparation: Sacramental preparation for First Communion and Confirmation is a consecutive two-year process, typically beginning in the 1st grade (Communion) and 7th grade (Confirmation).
Launch and Lift Youth Ministry: All 3rd – 8th grade students are encouraged to attend Launch and Lift Youth Ministry. Launch and Lift meets one Friday each month for fun, food & fellowship.
Parent Formation: Parents with students in Year 2 sacrament preparation for First Communion or Confirmation will be required to attend specific parent
meetings and activities. Additionally, all parents are encouraged to attend ongoing formation opportunities held throughout the year. -
Sacrament Preparation
First Communion
First Communion is a consecutive two-year process that typically begins in first grade. We offer an approach that s centered on the family and their journey with the child
in sacramental preparation. First Communion preparation is part of the Youth & Family Faith program. In addition to continued involvement in Youth & Family Faith, the
second year of preparation will include parent/child sessions, at-home parent/child lessons, retreats, and service activities. Students need to be baptized to begin
First Communion preparation. For questions regarding First Communion, please contact Kris Dahla.
Confirmation
Sacramental preparation for Confirmation is a consecutive two-year process, typically beginning in the 7th grade, although students 8th grade through 12th grade who are not yet confirmed can enroll and begin the two-year preparation process. Confirmation
preparation is part of the Youth & Family Faith program and includes additional at-home lessons, parent meetings, retreats, and service activities. Students need to be baptized and have celebrated First Communion to begin Confirmation preparation. For questions regarding Confirmation, please contact Jen Gordon.
What if my child/youth is older and has missed their First Communion or has not been baptized?
For older children/youth who have not received their first sacraments we do offer OCIA (Christian Initiation) adapted for children. OCIA is a two-year family process designed to prepare students to receive their sacraments. Students who have been baptized will enroll
in the Youth & Family Faith program. In addition to attending weekly Youth & Family Faith classes there will be monthly OCIA family preparation sessions. For older children/youth that have not been baptized, please contact Katie Maynard, Coordinator of Christian
Initiation to learn more about the process. -
